Our Approach

A place where rigid expectations are replaced with compassion and understanding.

Our Approach

A place where rigid expectations are replaced with compassion and understanding.

Learning is not just about acquiring knowledge, it should be an interactive process fueled by curiosity and wonder. We know the most effective learning happens when students are pursuing passions, helping them feel fully engaged and ensuring learning doesn’t feel like a chore.

Our small group size and hands-on approach to learning encourages critical thinking, problem-solving, creativity, and innovation. We also prioritize personalized learning plans that allow for flexibility and adaptability to meet the unique needs and interests of each student. Our experienced team provides individualized instruction and ongoing support to ensure academic success.

At the heart of our approach is a commitment to creating a nurturing and inclusive environment. Our social homeschooling model emphasizes collaboration, communication, and community building. This environment and our supportive staff help your students discover or reconnect with the joy in learning.

Belonging and Connection

We believe that a strong sense of belonging and connection is vital for learning and personal growth. When learners feel a sense of belonging, they are more likely to actively engage in the learning process and take risks in their learning. They feel supported and encouraged to explore and experiment with new ideas and concepts.

They feel seen, heard, and valued, which helps boost their self-esteem and confidence.

Our team creates a safe and inclusive learning environment where learners are free to express themselves and their opinions without fear of judgment or ridicule. We encourage active listening, empathy, and respect for all learners, regardless of their backgrounds or experiences. We celebrate diversity and use it as an opportunity to learn from one another.

Through our focus on belonging and connection, we aim to create lifelong learners who are not only knowledgeable and skilled but also empathetic, compassionate, and socially responsible.

Individualized Education

We understand that every student has unique needs and challenges, and we tailor our approach to meet the needs of each individual. This includes providing academic, behavioral and emotional support, and social skills development.

We empower students to develop the skills they need to thrive both academically and socially. We work closely with families and other support networks to create a comprehensive and coordinated plan of care. Our team of professionals includes educators, mentors, counselors, and other support staff, who work together to provide a fully integrated approach to our students’ care.

Through this personal and individualized approach to education, our students gain the confidence, skills, and knowledge they need to succeed.

Educational Philosophy

We believe that kids do well if they can.

Stress, anxiety and poor self-confidence make it hard to be successful in traditional school, and students can be misunderstood and labeled as unmotivated or incapable. At Evolve, with our specific interventions to build and support social, academic, and executive functioning skills, students can finally get the support they need to thrive.

Benefits of Evolve Program

We meet all students where they are, bringing our interventions to them in a natural setting and providing support in real time.

Interventions are geared at addressing underlying lagging skills in executive functioning, social, and the emotional barriers like anxiety that keep students from learning academics.

Diverse Problems, Individual Solutions

We are an inclusive setting, and students come to us for a variety of reasons.

Families are frustrated with traditional schools prioritizing work over social/emotional well-being. They appreciate our smaller setting, sense of community, and flexible program. Gifted students benefit from our advanced classes and dual enrollment options. We prioritize social-emotional and executive functioning skills for long-term success. Students take ownership of their learning, set goals, and build positive relationships. Self-advocacy and peer-teacher connections are fostered.

Our Unique ‘Backdoor Approach’

In our workshops and classes, we create a safe, supportive, structured yet flexible environment where students can learn and grow at their own pace. We work with each student to create individualized goals and strategies to help them succeed in school and in life.

Our focus on developing executive functioning skills such as organization, time management, flexible thinking, perseverance, planning and prioritizing helps students develop the tools they need to succeed academically. In addition, we help students improve their social and emotional skills, such as communication, self-awareness, and empathy, which are essential for success in all areas of life.

By teaching these skills in a natural and flexible environment, we help students develop the confidence and resilience they need to overcome challenges and achieve their goals. Our goal is to help every student become lifelong learners who are confident and capable.

Teaching Executive Functioning addresses a broad spectrum of skill sets.

In addition to workshops, we use evidence-based interventions such as visual schedules, graphic organizers, checklists, and timers to support learners with Executive Functioning challenges. We also incorporate daily mindfulness practices to help learners regulate their emotions and improve their focus and attention. Each learner’s Executive Functioning skills goals and strategies are personalized and reviewed regularly to ensure progress and success. By teaching Executive Functioning skills, we equip our learners with the tools they need to navigate academic and social challenges and build resilience.

Social understanding

We promote positive social interactions by encouraging students to communicate, collaborate, and solve problems together. We use peer mentoring and role-playing activities and more to support social skills development, while also creating a positive and inclusive community where each student’s individuality is valued and respected.

We address any challenges that may arise, using evidence-based interventions such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, mindfulness practices, and positive reinforcement techniques.

Overall, at Evolve, we foster a natural and supportive environment that allows our students to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

Our Story

Christina Sullivan and Raquel Farrell-Kirk, therapists and moms, combined their professional skills and desires to create a learning environment that fit their kids’ needs to create Evolve Learning Community in 2015. One student quickly grew to 15. When Raquel moved on, Christina continued to grow Evolve, working to break away from the cookie cutter approach of traditional schools to be a resource for those students who simply couldn’t thrive in that environment but who also didn’t require higher level behavioral interventions.

Since its founding, Evolve has become a community of learners who approach education from a holistic perspective, emphasizing intellectual, social-emotional, and physical development. We believe that education should be joyful and engaging, and our students thrive in a supportive and challenging environment that encourages exploration, discovery, and creativity.

Our highly skilled instructors and staff share a passion for helping students of all learning styles to become confident, independent, creative, lifelong learners.

At Evolve, we are dedicated to providing an educational experience that fosters intellectual curiosity, personal growth, and social responsibility. We invite you to join our community of learners and discover the joy of learning.
